MR DAVID MEREDITH OPENS THE COFFEE AFTERNOON

Dyma Mr David Meredith gyda'i fab Owain
a phedwar o'i wyrion

Agorwyd y Prynhawn Coffi eleni gan un o gyn-ddisgyblion yr ysgol, Mr David Meredith.

Yn wir, roedd Mr Meredith yn un o ddisgyblion cynharaf yr ysgol, gyda'i frawd John yn un o'r saith disgybl cyntaf nôl ym 1939. Cafwyd araith ddiddorol a phwrpasol iawn ganddo, a diolchwn iddo am ei eiriau caredig wrth agor y prynhawn mewn neuadd a oedd dan ei sang fel arfer.

Dymuna'r ysgol ddiolch yn arbennig hefyd i'r Gymdeithas Rieni ac Athrawon am drefnu digwyddiad llwyddiannus arall, ac i bawb a ddaeth i gefnogi ar y diwrnod.

SCIENCE WEEK : ABERYSTWYTH UNIVERSITY'S SCIENCE EXHIBITION 2014

Click here to view the whole collection (60 photos)

Years 5 and 6 pupils spent a very enjoyable and educational afternoon at the Science Exhibition which was held in the University.

Pupils were given the opportunity to roam the various workshops and stalls learning about all kinds of interesting and sometimes jaw-dropping science!

It was also great to see one of our ex-pupils - Tomos Fearne - exhibiting his Dalek and K9! Fantastic!

Many thanks to the University for once again inviting us along, and to the students for all their hard work and enthusiasm with the children.

'THE BIG PEDAL 2014'

A successful week was had while the school participated in the Big Pedal 2014 week, during which pupils were encouraged to bike, scooter or walk to school.

The school was eager to support this week in an attempt to bring down the number of cars outside the school gates, and of course to be environmentally friendly.

As you can see in the pictures, the number of pupils who biked, scooted or walked to school increased daily, with 138 pupils on their nikes or scooters on the Friday, and 70 walking to school.  This meant that over 50% of the pupils came to school in a way which didn’t involve a car – great!

Our challenge now is to continue with this great effort beyond the Big Pedal 2014 week!

WORLD BOOK DAY : YEAR 4 WITH WELSH CHILDREN'S POET LAUREATE

Year 4 had a very interesting session with the Welsh Children's Poet Laureate, Aneirin Karadog during this year's World Book Day.

During the afternoon the pupils walked along the avenue to the Town Library where they met with the multi talented poet, and spent the afternoon composing poems and rapping!

Thank you Aneirin for yet another fun session in your company.

WORLD BOOK DAY : MRS LLWYD PRESENTS HER LATEST NOVEL

We were very fortunate on this year's World Book Day to have a presentation by our very own Year 6 teacher, Mrs Llwyd, as she publishes her new novel 'Cam wrth Gam'.

This is Mrs Llwyd's second book in the 'Cyfres yr Onnen' series, and one important feature of this book is that it includes illustrations drawn by Mali, a pupil in year 6! Mali drew a total of 76 illustrations, most of which will appear in the book - excellent!

During the presentation we heard parts of the book being read by pupils from Mrs Llwyd's class, with everyone desperate to get their hands on a copy once it's published, hopefully before the end of this month. Thank you Mrs Llwyd and good luck with the novel.

THE COOKING BUS

During this week pupils from years 1, 2 and 3 have been busy cooking as the Cooking Bus has arrived here in Aberystwyth.

During their visits the pupils have been busy preparing different foods and learning essential skills such as cutting vegetables properly and safely with a knife.

Year 2 prepared some very delicious pizzas today, and here they are about to leave the bus after a busy morning of cooking!

(Year 3 have uploaded their photos to flickr - view them here)

ERIN IS THIRD IN COGURDD COOKING COMPETITION

Many congratulations to Erin of Year 5 who came third in this year's regional 'Cogurdd' cooking competition held at Ysgol Bro Pedr, Lampeter.

You'll remember Erin winning the school round of Cogurdd (see February's News) before going on to compete aginst the other winners from Ceredigion schools.

Erin had to cook three different recipes within a set time, and she obviously impressed the judges!

Many thanks to Gwesty Cymru's chef, Pav, for supporting Erin as she prepared for the competition.
